AMC Trying to Stay Ahead of the Movie Industry

The pop of the popcorn, the fizz of an ice cold Coke, and the hum of the projector; everyone loves the movies!

The movie theatre industry has been around since the 1900s when the first theatre, the Nickelodeon opened its doors on June 19th, 1905. Today’s movie theatre industry looks lightyears different with theatres coming with luxuries such as moving audio, dine-in options, comfy recliners, and even 4D experiences.

I talked to Geoff Corse, General Manager of AMC Studio 28 in Olathe, about how movie theatres are constantly changing and how to keep up to date with the latest and greatest technologies. Geoff informed me about how the best part of the AMC experience is the staff and their luxury theatres such as the ”Dolby Theatre”, but while the industry is growing with an abundance of technology, the industry is also seeing a sharp decline in sales and attendance. With industry giants like Netflix, Hulu, Sling, and Amazon, how can the movie theatre industry compete?

Geoff claims it is all about how the experience and getting people in the door and a constant basis. I decided to take to the streets to see what people’s opinions were on the movie theatre industry, how does the industry look from an outside perspective?

Dylan Growney claims his favorite part of the movie theatre experience is that, “bomb popcorn, they just need to make it cheaper.” The fight for movie theatre attendance is an uphill battle, but theatres such as AMC are doing their best and work hard every single day with the main goal is always the same every single day: “Make Smiles Happen.”

So whether you prefer movies on your device or on the big silver screen, the movie theatre will always be a home to many and all!
