Annual Team Beau Night to honor assistant coach’s son

Every year, your ONW softball team hosts their annual Team Beau Night to honor their assistant coach’s son, Beau Hash. Beau was diagnosed with GNA01, a rare genetic mutation affecting his growth development and muscle movement. He can do little to nothing on his own and needs a great deal of support, but thankfully his family, friends and the Raven softball have his back and are extremely dedicated to the rare disease cause. The team also hosts The Miracle League games every year (which puts on two little league baseball games for kids with special needs) and puts their hearts and souls into spreading awareness.

“It’s been mind blowing to me how many people care about a little boy that they don’t know. It’s really been inspiring and it makes you see the good in people and they care so much about Beau, and our family and the cause.” – Asst. Coach Anne LaVar Hash

Head Raven softball coach, Mark Mahoney, hopes the night will bring awareness and funds to not only the GNA01 cause, but rare disease as a whole. The team has designed several logos for Beau and turned them into bracelets, pom pom hats, stickers and shirts. Each game, the girls wear powder blue ribbons in their hair to represent the cause in hopes of finding a cure and bettering the rare disease community. Coach Hash claims Olathe Northwest started the ball rolling with Team Beau Night and strives for it to become more successful very year.

“People with special needs, this world wasn’t made for them. And, so a big goal of mine is to make everything accessible and more inclusion, and make people not afraid or uncomfortable to help kids with, or people with, disabilities. And just to make rare disease more of a household conversation, because it is out there, and it is extremely unfunded and glazed over, and that is 100% not okay.” – Asst. Coach Anne LaVar Hash

This year, the night will be held Friday, May 3rd at CBAC against the Olathe East Hawks at 4:15, so be sure to mark your calendars and come out and support Beau, the cause and your ONW softball team. Save the date Ravens, and don’t forget to wear your powder blue to show your support.
