On Saturday, April 6th, the Olathe Northwest Ravens took on the Shawnee Mission Northwest Cougars at the College Boulevard Activity Center.
Jack Clayton got the start on the mound and swept through the first few innings despite a two strike hit in the 1st inning. In the 3rd inning, Clayton walked the leadoff hitter. After a steal, a sharp ground ball to 2nd base was kicked by Logan Alexander, and the Cougars were the first on the scoreboard. SMNW would be held at 1 run for the rest of the day by Clayton who would go on to complete the game.
At the plate, the Ravens were ice cold through the first 5 innings of the game. Several Northwest players struggled to stay patient at the plate and rolled over to left side of the field throughout the game. In the 5th, the Ravens finally broke the seal. They stormed back to cover the 1 run deficit behind 2 RBIs from Grant Howard and an RBI apiece from Wyatt Morgan and Grant Hall. To go along with his 2 hits, Brevon Lee had a fantastic game at shortstop, turning 2 double plays and laying out to save more than 1 run.
At the end of 7 innings, the Ravens came out on top over the Cougars 5-1. OIathe Northwest improved their record to 6-1 and the best start in school history.
The Ravens have Sam Righter coming back on short rest to pitch against the Olathe West Owls on Monday, April 8th.
