The Olathe Northwest track team was set to compete at the Blue Valley Invitational last week. Due to inclement weather, the meet was cancelled. To make up for this meet the Ravens traveled down to Emporia State for the ESU High School Relays yesterday. The meet was very competitive with 17 teams in attendance. Due to the unexpected size of the meet, the races quickly ran behind schedule. By the time the 3200m run came around it was 9:00 and Coach Stephens decided to pull the plug pack up the bus and go home before the meet was over. It was a next day for many student athletes who were taking the ACT the next morning and they needed sleep. Regardless of their early exit, the Ravens still dominated the meet.
For the Boys, Chris George placed 3rd in the 200m dash. Andrew Tracy and Braeden Beard placed 1st and 3rd in the 400m dash. The Boy’s 4×800 relay team consisting of Andrew Tracy, Braeden Beard, Bret Beard, and Cole Morris placed 1st. Dee Goree placed third in the high jump with a leap of 6’-0”. Connor Boyd placed first in the discus and third in the shot put.
On the girls side, Maddie Righter placed first in the 200m dash. In the 800m freshman Lydia McGlocklin was followed shortly by Junior Maleah Wardlaw for third and forth. Lydia McGlocklin also medaled in the 1600m with a second place finish. Maddie Righter and Josie Morgan went 1-and-2 in the 100m hurdles. In the 300m hurdles Jaleesa McWashington took first place shortly followed by Josie Morgan in third. Maddie Righter won the high jump and the long jump. Jaleesa McWashington got 2nd in the long jump, only losing to her teammate, and she got first in the triple jump. Sophie Skoczek placed third in the discus.
The Ravens next meet is Friday at Olathe District Activity Center. Be there to support your 3-time defending state runner-ups!
