This Tuesday, the ONW Raven soccer team faced off against the Washburn Rural Baby Blues. The Ravens were looking to rebound from back-to-back losses against Park Hill South and Ray-Pec. After a hard-fought game, the Ravens were able to come back from Topeka with a huge 3-2 win.
The game started off slowly as both teams eased in to an extremely physical match. Late in the first half, Dylan Naidu floated a ball into the back post, and Landon Ouellette looped a header over the Washburn keeper for a 1-0 Raven lead. The Ravens moved into halftime with a 1-0 lead, but this game was far from over.
The Baby Blues started off strongly in the second half and put two goals past the Ravens. The Ravens trailed 1-2, but were determined to fight back. Midway through the second half, Davis Goertzen chipped a ball into the box and Noah Conover was able to tie up the game with a beautiful header into the top corner. With 10 minutes left in the game, Landon Ouellette was able to win a penalty kick through some strong hold-up play. Davis Goertzen converted the penalty and gave the Ravens a 3-2 lead. The Ravens defended hard until the final whistle and were able to hold onto their lead and win the game 3-2.
The Ravens are now 2-2 on the season. Looking forward, the Ravens are hoping to continue this momentum in their next game against Eudora. They play at 1:00 on Saturday at CBAC, so come out and support the team!
