Last Saturday, the Olathe Northwest cross country team went to ODAC to run in the annual Olathe Twilight meet. Runners from 19 different schools ran in the boys and girls varsity races. The Ravens worked hard and competed, and the boys team finished 15 out of 18 teams while the girls team did not place as a team.
For the girls team, Alissa Berrie finished 108th with a time of 23:00.30, Lily Lowe finished 106th with a time of 22:53.90, Maleah Wardlaw finished 77th with a time of 21:50.60, and Lydia McGlocklin finished 20th with a time of 20:12.80. We spoke with Maleah Wardlaw after the race to ask what makes the Twilight meet so special. Maleah said she enjoys that they get to put on “paint and glow sticks” for the meet and added that it really adds to how fun the meet is as a whole.
For the boys team, Joshua Fitzwater finished 127th overall with a time of 19:43.80, Luke Wiley finished 125th with a time of 19:29.20, Trey Sharpe finished 113th with a time of 18:57.50, Alex Ling finished 105th with a time of 18:36.80, Hudson Hurtig finished 90th with a time of 18:11.40, Colin Frier finished 89th with a time of 18:09.00, and Logan Reed finished 14th with a time 16:29.80. With this time, Logan Reed broke a school record for a 5k run. After the race, Colin Frier said that for his next meet, he is looking to run “around a 17:30 5k”.
Looking forward, the Ravens are looking to build upon this result in the future. Their next meet is on Saturday the 28th, and the team is currently working hard to prepare for the race.
