The Olathe Northwest Ravens lost to the Shawnee Mission East Lancers 33-8 at CBAC. With both teams being 0-2 to begin the season, the pressure was on for one of the teams to come out on top. One of the most memorable times these teams faced off was in the second round of the playoffs in 2017, where the Ravens lost 42-17. Nevertheless, the Ravens had a good crowd turnout on Thursday night and both sides were ready for a good game.
Shawnee Mission East took the lead over the Ravens at halftime with their offense marching over the Ravens. Meanwhile, the Ravens were held scoreless in the first half due to Mason Sadler’s interception and fumble and the defense being gassed. Near the end of the second half, Mason Sadler handed the ball off to Logan Evans around the 20-yard line and Logan ran it into the endzone for the score, putting the Ravens on the board at 19-6. The players celebrated and the crowd was hyped. The special teams unit took the field for an extra point attempt, put when the snap happened, the holder, Colton Prock took the ball and threw right over a defender’s head into the hands of Ethan Sadler, putting the Ravens at 19-8 with the 2-point conversion.
Shawnee Mission East scored two more touchdowns, while the Ravens had more turnovers. This all culminated in the Ravens losing the game against Shawnee Mission East. Both teams showed good sportsmanship after the game and headed back to their locker rooms. The Ravens next football game is against Lawrence High School on September 27th in Lawrence at 7 P.M.
