Most people have heard of “No Shave November.” But what exactly is the goal of No Shave November. There are several versions of No Shave November, one of them being Movember where you grow a mustache for the month of November. Men who grow these mustaches are known as Mo Bros who help raise awareness for the ignored issues of men’s health. Many steps have been taken to catch up with the women’s health movement with cancer’s and illnesses, but there is still much to do to catch up with the many medical advancements that has helped women.
One of the many goals of Movember is to raise money for Prostate Cancer Research and other health risk and issues that grown men face. Last year the Movember campaign raised nearly $80.7 million dollars going toward research and other programs. Movember is hoping to surpass that goal this year. Foundations that Movember supports include The Prostate Cancer Foundation, LIVESTRONG and money for awareness and education for men’s health issues.
During their lifetime, men encounter many health problems. Here are some statistics of some of their health problems they come across. One in two men will be diagnosed with some type of cancer. One in Six men will be diagnosed with Prostate Cancer compared with women where One in Eight women will be diagnosed with Breast Cancer, Men are more likely to get some sort of cancer than women. Men are less likely to go to the doctor and get checked out than women that is why there is not much done about men’s health.
Movember is a movement helping the statistics of men’s health and everyday working to prevent and find research for men’s cancers. So guys, start growing those wonderful mustaches and raise money for a cause.
