On Tuesday, September 25th, the Olathe Northwest Ravens hosted their rivals, the Olathe West Owls, at the College Boulevard Activity Center for a windy second meeting between the schools.
In the first half, action was slow. The Ravens controlled the pitch, spending a majority of the opening 30 minutes on the Owl’s half of the field. The Ravens had several chances, including shots from Baker, Beard, and Klusman. Despite the conditions, Olathe West got on the board first when a free kick from Luke High found its home in the back of the net off the header from former U.S. National Team player Johnny Munoz.
Following a dull opening 40, the second half exploded in action. Brock Baker elevated above the defense to tie the game at 1 after a foul set up the free kick just beyond the box for Caleb Ragland. A few minutes later, a foul in the box led to a Chase Klusman PK rolling past Goalkeeper Dolores for the second Northwest goal of the evening. With only a few minutes left in regulation, an Owl corner created a call in the box. Luke High buried his PK opportunity in the top left corner of the goal, tying the match at 2 and sending the game to overtime.
Under KSHAA rules, overtime turns into two 10 minutes halves of golden goal. Within the first minute of OT, Leif Johnson made a move towards the middle from the left wing, took a shot, and sealed the game with a fantastic goal.
The Olathe Northwest Ravens walked away victorious over the Olathe West Owls 3-2.
