On October 20th, 2018, Several families from across the county gathered at the Sunflower House in Shawnee for several fall festivites. This event allowed kids to participate in games, face painting, a balloon artist, and trunk or treat. By hosting this event, The Sunflower house was able to give parents reassurance about their kids trick-or-treating. Emily Ohmes believed that this event was a great “sense of community” and allowed familes to “celebrate the kids”. Many kids enjoyed Pumpkin Palooza because it was a great way to get prepared for Halloween night. Adonnis Stidhan said she loved Pumpkin Palooza because there was “a lot of candy” and she also said this event was “very fun”.
The Sunflower House puts on this event each year not only for kids to have fun but to raise money for their foundation. Their goal is to allow a place for families to talk about abuse and teach kids what abuse is. To raise money, Artists painted pumpkins and they were sold and all proceeds were directed towards the foundation.
